Wildlife Speaker Series - Pelicans

  • Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Lakeview, MT (map)

Join us for the fifth event of our annual Summer Speaker Series, where we will ponder a plethora of puckish particulars about pelicans! We will kick off the evening at 6:00 PM with a community potluck dinner at the Taft-Nicholson Center / Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, so bring your favorite dish to share. Our featured event will begin at 7:00 with a presentation from Emily Sorenson, an interpretive naturalist.

Driving Directions:
From Dillon - Take I-15 South to Monida, exiting at Exit 0. Turn Left at the exit stop sign. Go over the railroad tracks, with the road turning to dirt. Follow the dirt road (S. Valley Road) for about 28 miles to the Refuge HQ, which will be on your right with a kiosk in the driveway. (~2 hour travel time from Dillon)

From Ennis - Take MT-287 South for about 40 miles. Turn Right onto MT-87 South, turning into ID-87 South. After 12.6 miles, turn Right onto Henry's Lake Drive and follow for about 5.5 miles. This road will turn to dirt after 2 miles or so. Turn Right onto Red Rock Pass Road. Follow over the top of the Pass, turning into S. Valley Road, and continue on S. Valley for 16 miles to the Refuge HQ. The HQ will be on your left with a kiosk in the driveway. (~2 hour travel time from Ennis)

Note for all routes: The Valley Road can be rough at times. Please remember to take it slow and have the ability to change a tire if need be! Camping spots may be available at Upper Lake Campground, Lower Lake Campground, Hell Roaring Trailhead, or Red Rock Pass.
